Matched Savings Program
What is the program?
The Matched Savings Program is a financial empowerment initiative of the Interfaith Alliance at the Beach, which is an informal coalition of faith based congregations, nonprofit organizations and city service providers working to address unmet needs and social justice issues through community collaborative and nonpartisan advocacy.

The Matched Savings Program was established in 2012 to provide an incentive for individuals to complete a rigorous financial literacy program and to create their own alternative to predatory loans by establishing emergency savings. Eligibility for Matched Savings is dependent upon successful completion of the Bank On Hampton Roads Financial Literacy Program. Bank On Hampton Roads emphasizes the importance of developing good financial habits and offers a free 5 month financial education program with personalized
coaching.

Participants who complete the Bank On program, meet income requirements and save $150, may receive a $150 match, establishing a $300 emergency fund and providing an alternative to high-cost loans in the future.

How is it funded?
The Matched Savings Program is funded by grants and private donations from churches, Bank On partners, graduates and private donors.
