The Affordable Housing Problem

Virginia Beach has a major problem with lack of affordable housing. In November 2023, the Interfaith Alliance at the Beach took steps to solve this problem by hosting the Unlocking the Keys to Affordable Housing Forum that featured knowledgeable speakers and opportunities for faith communities to take action to end the affordable housing crisis. From this event, we have developed a number of ways that faith communities can engage with each other to create solutions. Check out the options below to find the best fit for your community: 

  • Write a letter to the Virginia Beach City Council urging them to say YES to affordable housing solutions. 

  • Host The YIMBY Exhibit in your organization to raise awareness about the myths of affordable housing. 

  • Take a field trip to Asheville, NC to visit the BeLoved Community's twelve unit affordable housing project. 

  • Take a field trip to Franklin, VA to visit Hayden Village Center- a senior community that resides in the historic Hayden High School's renovated building. 

  • Attend a fireside chat with experts in the field to increase your knowledge about the issue.

In loving service to make housing available to everyone in our city, the Interfaith Alliance at the Beach requests that we take a minute to email all of the Virginia Beach City Council at citycouncil@vbgov.com with this basic message: We need your leadership now!

 

Say YES to Attainable, Affordable Housing in my Backyard. Say YES to Attainable, Affordable Housing in every district in Virginia Beach!
